Wonderful news about great” Changing Places “for those with disabilities.

In West Norfolk, we now have 2 ideal spaces known as Changing Places that are designed to make it possible for people with complex problems to find suitable areas to access for toileting. The 1st is at Tesco superstore in Gaywood, King’s Lynn The 2nd is at the Visitor Centre at Sandringham. These will give peace of mind to families who need this support and allow them to use the wonderful facilities at Sandringham and confidence when shopping. 2 keys are needed to use the changing place, which are available from the reception at the visitor centre. The reception is open in winter (before March 28th and after Oct 12th) from 10 am to 4 pm. In summer, this is 8:30 - 6 pm. Exact dates will change each year, so please check.

Forward Day Centre

Forward Day Centre supports adults with learning disabilities and autism in Kings Lynn and West Norfolk. From Millfleet, we support people with complex needs and people who would like to be independent. Our facilities include sensory rooms, music rooms, kitchens and a workshop. We also occupy a factory unit and many of the items that Members make there are sold in our town centre gift shop, where Members volunteer. We like to be active within the community, tending planters in Kings Lynn, litter picking and being involved in local issues. The Adapted Sports Hub would be a wonderful and well-needed asset for people with disabilities, young and old. It has our full support.

The Magpie Centre West Norfolk

The Magpie Centre has been a dedicated RDA riding centre at Wallington Hall for over 30 years. Our horses and ponies provide therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities and SEN. We offer activities such as riding and carriage driving to all age groups and, wherever possible, to people with any disability. We also offer ‘Tea with a Pony’ for those living with dementia or other disabilities and Equine Assisted Learning Therapy (EALT) a programme encouraging interaction between horses and people to promote mental wellbeing.

The Downham Otters Swimming Club

The Downham Otters Swimming Club for those needing assistance. Sessions are held every Tuesday at the Downham Market leisure centre from 2-30 – 4pm.

The Otters swimming club is for adults with varied disabilities and their carers. Permission is needed from the GP of the client, that they would benefit from water based exercise and a little information is required about the person’s disability in order that they are matched with a suitable able-bodied helper or they may wish to bring their own helper. The club would not be able to exist without the support of our able-bodied helpers. So we welcome anyone who would like to become involved in helping us serve the local community.

The exercises consist of 10 minute of gentle warm up stretching and about 25 minutes of gentle exercises to popular 60’s 70’s music. The weekly fee is £2-00 with a yearly subscription of £7-50. There is also a very active social side to the club with summer BBQ’s and Christmas Dinner with awards for outstanding members.

Snettisham Beach Sailing Club

SBSC provides the most comprehensive sailing, kayaking, canoeing, kite/wind surfing and paddleboarding opportunities for both beginners and experienced participants in the area. We have the only full time Royal Yachting Association approved training centre in North and West Norfolk and are unique in having both a lake and the sea equidistant from the clubhouse.
