First session of Ride United – adapted cycling club
We had an amazing first day of the new club, with lots of different people coming along and everyone having fun. The sun shone, which made it even better.
Our cyclists varied from adults coming with support, children of one and a half, riding alongside their parent, an autistic boy who was sure he didn’t want to ride, but ended up on a bike with his dad with a huge smile and chatting away, a young man with Cerebral Palsy who found riding on regular roads scary and lots of family members giving encouragement.
We were wonderfully supported by the company Ashfield Special Needs, based in Wisbech, who brought along an amazing array of 2 people bikes, which were much enjoyed.
We were also delighted to see Sally Withey, the Eastern Sports Developer at British Cycling. Lesley Bambridge, Cllr on Norfolk County Council and Tommy Goode, Head of Performance at Alive Lynnsport, who was instrumental in getting us such a perfect site for the club on the side of the Athletics track at Lynnsport.
The track is flat, traffic-free, safe and provides a great incentive with the marked 400metre circles.
Nikki Collins of the Adapted Sports Hub Team, with volunteers, spearheaded the project, and this gives an indication of the wonderful adapted projects to follow once the hub is built.
A really great start for a club that we hope will go from strength to strength and be a wonderful asset to the whole of West Norfolk.
