Izaak is an exceptional man, full of smiles and enthusiasm, who with the help of his loving family has overcome so many of the problems that have faced him in his 27 years.
Izaak was born with a brain injury that resulted in hemiplegic cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus and epilepsy. He has managed to overcome these problems and leads a very full life, working part time, going to the pub with his brothers, enjoying using the internet and setting up intricate train networks at home.
Keeping fit for Izaak can be challenging as his medication causes him to easily put on weight, but, with the help of his family he swims, attends horse carriage driving with the RDA, and has ridden a trike at school and with the family. Cycling together as a family had been a favourite pastime, however, this had become more difficult after a fall and change in circumstances a few years back. Izaak needed to regain the confidence to ride again. Ride United at Lynnsport provides just this opportunity as the cycle track has a flat surface, is traffic free and has a clearly marked circuit.  Izaak came along to Ride United in September 2025, when the club first opened, and has been a regular attendee ever since. His Dad Steve is also one of our amazing Ride United Team Volunteers.
When Izaak joined the club he was reluctant to get on a trike again, but now after 11 months he can cheerfully achieve up to 20 laps per session and has been awarded a Ride United cap for having completed 100 laps in total. A wonderful achievement and he really enjoyed the cheering as he crossed the line to achieve this.
Cycling has helped to increase Izzak’s fitness and strength and provided a new friendship group.
